In short
If a company in your check result shows an identifier marked (unsupported), there is nothing wrong. The company has been correctly identified and your check is fully valid.
The only difference is practical: an unsupported identifier cannot be used to launch a new check or to invite the company.
What is an unsupported business ID?
When the platform identifies a company, it displays the official identifiers found for it. Some are supported: the platform can use them to launch a check. Others are recognized but unsupported: the platform knows them and uses them to identify the company, but cannot launch a check from them.
An unsupported identifier is displayed with the mention (unsupported) next to it, for example: 1234567 (unsupported).
We show these identifiers for transparency, so you can see every official reference found for the company.
Your questions
- Is the company correctly identified? Yes. An unsupported identifier is an official, recognized identifier. The company was identified with the same matching rules as any other company.
- Is my check valid? Yes. The check was carried out in full and its result applies as is. The “(unsupported)” mention does not lower its reliability.
- Is it an error or missing data? No. The mention only tells you which identifiers the platform can reuse to launch a check. It says nothing negative about the company or about your result.
- Why isn't the type of identifier shown? Unsupported identifiers are displayed for reference only. Since they are not used to launch checks on the platform, they are not classified by type. This has no impact on your result: the company is identified using all the information available, such as its name, legal form and address, not this identifier alone.
- Do I need to do anything? No. You can rely on the result. The only limits are listed in the next section.
Supported vs unsupported: what changes
Identification and check validity are the same for both types. Only two actions differ.
| Supported (e.g. EIN 12-3456789) | Unsupported (e.g. 1234567 (unsupported)) | |
|---|---|---|
| Company correctly identified | ✅ Yes | ✅ Yes |
| Check result valid | ✅ Yes | ✅ Yes |
| Launch a new check with this identifier | ✅ Yes | ❌ No |
| Invite the company | ✅ Yes | ❌ No |
Table description: the table compares a supported identifier, such as an EIN (Employer Identification Number), with an unsupported identifier, displayed as “1234567 (unsupported)” without its type. For both, the company is correctly identified and the check result is valid. The supported identifier can be used to launch a new check and allows you to invite the company. The unsupported identifier cannot be used to launch a new check and does not allow you to invite the company.
What can I do with an unsupported ID?
Use the result. The check is valid: you can rely on it in your process as you would for any other check.
Inviting the company. If the company was identified through an unsupported identifier, the Invite button is greyed out. This is expected behaviour, not a malfunction: the platform cannot send an invitation based on this type of identifier.
